'Star Wars Battlefront' Updates: Battle of Jakku Lands Next Month, New Mod Hinted
Electronic Arts (EA) announced that the long-awaited "Star Wars Battlefront" DLC, The Battle of Jakku, will finally be arriving next month. Plus, modder Toddyftw released images showing his latest mod, the "Star Wars Battlefront" Toddyhancer (Build 2), which gives a realistic environment to the game.
The Battle of Jakku details new mode and map
The DLC, which was promised in April, will finally be arriving to "Star Wars Battlefront." EA revealed on Tuesday, Nov. 24, that players who pre-ordered the game will be receiving The Battle of Jakku on Dec. 1. The rest of the players will be receiving the free DLC a week later.
The "Star Wars Battlefront" DLC includes a new mode called Turning Point and two new maps, Graveyard of Giants and Goazan Badlands.
In the Turning Point game mode, 40 players will play as Rebels in a series of missions that will ultimately lead them to the Empire's base where the final battle will ensue. They will first try to find three control points under the Imperial and capture at least one. If they succeed, new control points will be available and the Rebels will be provided more time to capture these.
Meanwhile, Graveyard of Giants, the larger map between the two, will be playable in Turning Point, Supremacy, Walker Assault, and Fighter Squadron modes. Goazan Badlands will be playable in Blast, Drop Zone, Droid Run, Cargo, Hero Hunt, and Heroes vs. Villains.
The Battle of Jakku is set 29 years before "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
Toddyhancer mod
Another development, though unofficial, is Martin "Toddyftw" Bergman's new mod. The "Star Wars Battlefront" Toddyhancer is now in Build 2. The mod looks very realistic, and players will feel like they're actually on Tatooine taking out Imperial troops while dodging enemy fire, Uproxx notes. Bergman has released 79 images showcasing his latest mod in Imgur.
The mod drains around 30-40 FPS, says Bergman. This will likely translate to "a choppy experience" even on the best hardware, notes Uproxx. Bergman will be releasing the mod to the public at an unspecified date.
"Star Wars Battlefront" was initially released Nov. 17 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
