Star Wars: Episode 8 'The Last Jedi' Confirmed To Be Plural; First Trailer May Arrive in April

Ever since the official subtitle of "Star Wars: Episode 8" was revealed, fans have debated over the meaning of "The Last Jedi." Some have argued that it refers to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), while others think that it encompasses more than one person since the term Jedi is both singular and plural.

However, according to TheWrap, this debate has been settled. Thanks to the reveal of the "Star Wars" title in different languages, it has been concluded that "The Last Jedi" is, in fact, plural. For this reason, it can be assumed that the title may be referring to both Luke and Rey (Daisy Ridley), who was revealed in "The Force Awakens" to have a natural affinity with the Force.

It is unknown if there are other Jedi out there apart from Luke and Rey, although plot theories have mostly involved the two characters. Some have speculated that Rey is actually a Skywalker, while others think she may be a Kenobi. Another popular theory is that Luke will take Rey under his wing for Jedi training. This speculation goes on to hypothesize that Luke may die in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi."

Plot details are scarce at this point, but it is expected that more will come to light once a trailer is officially released. According to Entertainment Weekly, the first trailer may be unveiled at the upcoming "Star Wars" Celebration, an event held yearly. It was announced that director Rian Johnson and Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy will be making an appearance at the upcoming Orlando event with "plenty of surprises and special guests."

It would not be entirely surprising should a trailer be revealed at the "Star Wars" Celebration, especially based on the studio's pattern of unveiling clips during events. The "Star Wars" Celebration will take place on April 13 to 16.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" will premiere on Dec. 15, 2017.
