'Star Wars: Episode VIII' News: Boyega Reveals 'Darker' And 'More Physical' Film

After the release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and its subsequent success in the box office, the studio behind the film is already hard at work on the next film, "Star Wars: Episode VIII." As previously reported, lead stars John Boyega, who played Finn, and Daisy Ridley, who played Rey, are returning to the sequel to reprise their roles.

In the coming film, the story of Finn and Rey will likely continue, but Disney is already keeping a tight lid on the film's plot and what stories come next. According to a report in SlashFilm, even "The Force Awakens" director J.J. Abrams is not divulging any details about the next film.

At a Television Critics Association event, Abrams was asked about the back story of one of the characters, Rey, and all he said was that he was aware of that part of the plot, even if he is no longer directing "Episode VIII." He also said that it was a story that the new director, Rian Johnson, must work with and continue. Abrams was earlier reported to have expressed some regrets about not accepting to helm the next movie.

John Boyega, on the other hand, revealed some interesting tidbits about his character and its development in the next movie. In an interview, the actor said that the next film will be much "darker" than the first in the trilogy. This pattern, according to an IGN report, is very much like the pattern of the original trilogy, where the second film then, "The Empire Strikes Back," was of a darker tone than "A New Hope."

He also hinted how his character will be developed in the next film, indicating that he may need more gym time if he is to continue playing his role. According to the IGN report, he seemed to imply that his character will be seeing more action here than in the first film.

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" will bow in theaters on May 26, 2017.
