'Star Wars' Han Solo Film Cast News: 'The Wire' Actor Michael K. Williams Tapped to Play Unknown Role
The "Star Wars" Han Solo spin-off film may have just gained another cast member in the form of Michael K. Williams, who is best known for playing Omar Little on the HBO series "The Wire."
According to Variety, Williams is apparently in the final negotiation phase with Disney and Lucasfilm for a part in the upcoming standalone prequel. However, his character details - much like everything else in the film - remains tightly under wraps.
Alden Ehrenreich portrays the young smuggler originated by Harrison Ford, while Donald Glover plays a young Lando Calrissian. Woody Harrelson has been cast as Han's mentor of sorts, who does not exactly have a crime-free past. Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge round out the cast, but their roles remain unknown at this time. However, it has been said that Waller-Bridge's character will be rendered on CGI.

Production has already commenced for the Han Solo spin-off, and the first - albeit incomplete - cast photo was released last month. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" director J.J. Abrams has apparently read the script of the upcoming movie and has nothing but praise for the writing.
"I can tell you it is an amazing script and the cast is obviously extraordinary," Abrams previously said via Fox News.
The "Star Wars" film series is definitely lucrative since it is built on decades of pop culture with a huge and loyal fan base behind it. Disney and Lucasfilm only recently revived the franchise with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." They quickly followed it up with "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." With Episodes 8 and 9 set to be released in the coming years and a Han Solo spin-off in the works, fans are undoubtedly hoping for more content.
Back in November 2016, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed that there have been talks about the future of the film franchise. However, nothing has been set in stone thus far.
"That's a conversation going on right now, too," she told Entertainment Weekly. "I have to honestly tell you, could we [do nothing but standalones]? Sure. But I don't know. We are looking at all of that."
Right now, fans are happy with what they have got.
The "Star Wars" Han Solo standalone film will premiere in U.S. theaters on May 25, 2018.
