'Star Wars' Spin-off Movie News: Will Alden Ehrenreich Play the Young Han Solo for the Character's Standalone Movie?
It seems that the search for the actor whom Harrison Ford will hand down his iconic boots and vest to will soon be over as it is reported that the team behind the Han Solo movie has already set their eyes on someone whom they is ideal for the role. According to Deadline, actor Alden Ehrenreich is leading the roster of candidates for the "Star Wars" spinoff story of the young Han Solo via a film to be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
In report of The Hollywood Reporter last month, the list had been narrowed down to three after a test from around 10 actors was conducted. It was not clear what kind of test was conducted, though, whether it was a screen test or costume test or both. Reportedly, actors Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Emory Cohen made it to the shortlist, but Alden Ehrenreich, Jack Reynor, and Taron Egerton advanced further in the audition process and made it as the last three standing.
Despite the secrecy that shrouds the casting of the movie, rumor has it that Ehrenreich has already pulled away from Reynor and Egerton is now the top choice for the upcoming standalone Han Solo movie, thanks to his impressive performance in the auditions. If Ehrenreich is, indeed, the choice of the still unnamed Han Solo film, his take on the younger version of the character that has been associated with Ford for almost three decades will be guided by "The Lego Movie" directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
The Han Solo standalone movie will focus on the character younger days, when he was still not connected to the rebel alliance. The story will be scribed by one of the movie's executive producers, Lawrence Kasdan, who also wrote the scripts for "The Empire Strikes Back," "Return of the Jedi," and "The Force Awakens." He will be partnering with his son Jon in writing the script for the Han Solo film.
Although the movie doesn't have an official title yet, Disney has already booked it for a May 25, 2018 showing date.
Meanwhile, Ehrenreich is also the lead actor in the upcoming "Howard Hughes project," which is slated for a release in fall this year.
