'Star Wars' Star Daisy Ridley Confirms Talks Over Lara Croft Role in "Tomb Raider" Reboot
It's still a long way to go before a reboot of the action-adventure thriller "Tomb Raider" will hit the big screen again. But even so, there are already some tidbits of information going around including the potential star that will replace Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. According to Coming Soon, Warner Bros. and MGM were rumored to have put "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" star Daisy Ridley at the top of their list to play as the protagonist.
It initially started off as a rumor but when Ridley was interviewed during the recent Empire Awards in London, she confirmed about being in talks over the role. The Hollywood Reporter detailed that Ridley, who won the best female newcomer award, stated that there "have been conversations" about her doing the lead in the proposed rebooting of the film franchise. However, she revealed that she has not been offered the role. "I'm waiting for someone to say, 'I want you, let's do it'," Ridley said.
Apparently, the 23-year old English actress is interested to do the project if given the chance. And even though she will be busy with filming for "Star Wars Episode VIII," Ridley shares that she may accept the offer if ever as working on another project will not bring any conflict to her current one. She said that she is aiming to fill up her schedule with work.
Ridley's co-star, John Boyega, who plays as Finn in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has no idea who will be the next Lara Croft but if he were to choose, he thinks that Ridley is fit for the job.
"I played Tomb Raider the game; it's a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version," said Boyega "But I texted Daisy [and] was like, 'This is you!' and 'You need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft.' She should be," he added.
Fans who are looking forward for the reboot film will have to stay tuned. According to Independent, "Tomb Raider" is slated to be released sometime in 2017.
