'Star Wars' Star Domhnall Gleeson Signs on for Netflix Biopic of 'National Lampoon'
"Star Wars" actor Domhnall Gleeson is joining in the cast on an upcoming biopic for Netflix. According to a report by IGN, Gleeson, who plays as General Hux in the recently released film "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," has signed on to be play a part in Netflix originals titled "A Futile and Stupid Gesture,' which tells the story about the founding of the original humor magazine "National Lampoon."
And even though the Irish actor's schedule is jam-packed due to the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VIII," it seems like he is still game to squeeze in one more project. Cinema Blend detailed that Gleeson's commitment for the upcoming Netflix project will not be a problem with his working on the next "Star Wars" movie as it is said that all parties involved have made agreements that allows him to be part of both films.
As for the character that he is playing, Exposè.ie reported that he will portray Henry Beard, one of the founders of the humor magazine. He will star alongside "Saturday Night Live" alum Will Forte who will play as Doug Kenny, the main character of the film, as the true-life tale will center on his tragic story.
This also means that even though it will tell the life story of the men who founded the comic force in the 1970's and 1980's, the biopic will have a duskier side. It will follow how Kenny rose to fame in Hollywood with their comedy movies like "Animal House" and "Caddyshack" and how he ended up mysteriously dying by falling off a cliff in Hawaii at the age of 33. It will also show his drug and alcohol issues prior to his death in August 1980.
"A Futile and Stupid Gesture" will be directed by David Wain and will be written by Michael Colton and John Aboud who adapted Josh Karp's 2008 book of the same name.
