'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' News: Character Details Revealed after 'Force Friday'
A lot of new "Star Wars" merchandise was released on "Force Friday," most especially new toys and costumes featuring characters from the upcoming "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" movie. With these new releases, clues about some of the movie's characters were also revealed, according to a report in iDigital Times. If the accompanying costume descriptions are accurate, these may very be the most detail fans can get about these characters before they appear in the big screen.
John Boyega's character is Finn and the costume description confirms that he is a former Stormtrooper who had a change of heart. The packaging says: "After becoming stranded by himself in the deserts of Jakku, and meeting up with a girl named Rey, a Stormtrooper named Finn has joined the side of the Resistance. He began his adventure as a part of the New Order, but now he's one of the few people that can stop them."
As for another main character, Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, her costume description is said to reveal some new details about her character and the role she will play in the movie's story. It says: "After invading the Starkiller Base, one member of the Resistance has split from her group and found herself in a massive room full of First Order soldiers. Completely surrounded by Stormtroopers with blasters and Knights of Ren with lightsabers, she seems to be totally outnumbered. Unfortunately for her enemies, though, they've made a big mistake: it's not about the strength of the weapon, but the strength of the warrior that wields it." According to the report, it definitely confirms that Rey may be a powerful user of "the force." The description also provides fans with a sneak peek to an actual scene where Rey is involved, which hopefully makes its way into the movie.
In another report in Den of Geek, director J.J. Abrams has revealed additional character detail about one of the key villains in the film, Kylo Ren. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Abrams cited that Kylo Ren's mask takes after the mask of Darth Vader, which is an acknowledgement of the significance of Vader in the story. As for Ren's lightsaber, Abrams said that it was built by Ren himself, to be "as dangerous and as fierce and as ragged as the character."
Lastly, his name "Ren" is a given surname for the Knights of Ren, of which he is part of. This is the same case as the surname "Darth" which was given to Sith Lords like Darth Vader.
