'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Tie-In Novels Release Date Announced
Del Rey Books has announced it will be releasing the book and comics series for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" by fall.
The tie-in novels and comic books for upcoming December 18 film, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will be launched to the public in September, Del Rey Books revealed during the Star Wars Celebration fan convention in Anaheim, California over the weekend.
The series, titled "Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens," spans 20 titles available in both print and digital versions which will be released before the movie's premiere to serve as fans' guide to the film.
The collaborative collection will feature new narratives geared at middle grade children, young adults, and adults, with novels, comic books, Look and Find, illustrated references, apps, and even sticker book formats. The stories will bring in both old and new "Star Wars" characters, and narrate classic tales from the franchise based on new perspectives.
In a post on the Star Wars blog, Disney-Lucasfilm creative franchise director, Michael Siglain revealed the film's creators have included a host of surprises, hints and puzzles in the publication series to keep fans on their toes until the film opens in theaters.
Earlier in March, Lucasfilm and Disney Publishing Worldwide confirmed the tie-in books and comics which are set during the period after "Return of the Jedi" and the beginning of "The Force Awakens," and will be foreshadowing the events that will unfold during the film.
Penned by Greg Rucka, Cecil Castellucci, Jason Fry, and Claudia Gray, the collective storylines of the novels remain a heavily guarded secret and will be released in cooperation with Disney-Lucasfilm's publishing partners, Del Rey, Marvel, Studio Fun International, DK, Phoenix International Publications, Inc., Egmont U.K., and Topps.
