'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' News: Porg Creator Says New Creature Is Chewbacca's New Best Friend
A few weeks before the premiere of the highly anticipated "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" film in December, more and more teasers are coming out, including the latest clip titled "Awake."
In the teaser, viewers were surprised by a brief scene that showed Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) inside the Millenium Falcon. It also featured Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) throwing yet again another tantrum, Rey (Daisy Ridley) wielding a lightsaber, Finn (John Boyega) battling it out against Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) with a new tiny friend called a Porg.
Fans have been gushing about the cuteness of this particular creature ever since it first appeared in a teaser video several weeks back. According to some, it also holds somewhat of a resemblance to Chewbacca.
Oscar-winning special effects artist Neal Scanlan, who also heads the Lucasfilm's Creature Workshop for the "Star Wars" film franchise, recently revealed in an interview that the Porg that Chewbacca befriended and brought on board the Millenium Falcon was intentionally meant to remind the fans of their favorite Wookie.
"That porg in particular shows some very Wookiee traits in the way he's colored," he told Empire. "His patterning is very similar to Chewie's," he added.
He also teased the origins of mysterious crystal foxes that were spotted in the trailer, as well as BB-8 meeting his First Order evil doppelganger, the BB-9E.
"There was this one scene in particular where BB-8 is in disguise and has to try and make his way without being recognised," Scanlan told the publication. "It just seemed so threatening that his doppelgänger would be the very one that may or may not discover him," he went on to say.
Meanwhile, what reportedly intrigued fans even more about the latest "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" teaser was the scene wherein Luke was on the ground saying the line: "This is not going to go the way you think."
This was followed by a shot of Rey raising her lightsaber. While there is no certainty that they were in the same scene, it looked like she was standing over the defeated Jedi Master.
Fans will soon find out what happens when "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" arrives in cinemas on Dec. 15.
