'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Plot News: Rey and Kylo Ren Might Betray Their Teachers
"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is opening in theaters in a couple of months, and rumor has it that it will find two apprentices turning their backs on their masters. Speculations about Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) betraying their teachers started earlier last week when the new trailer for the film was released, suggesting a possible allegiance swap.
Avid fans of the "Star Wars" franchise know that being loyal is not Force users' cup of tea. Previous films in the franchise showed certain characters betray their masters, and Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) was no exception to that. If the teasers and trailers for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" are anything to go by, it looks like two betrayals are set to happen in the "Star Wars" universe.
Since the first trailer for the upcoming film was released, speculations about Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) possibly turning to the dark side have been around. At this point, however, Luke's abandonment of the galaxy during the rise of the First Order looks less likely. With the second trailer dropped, new betrayal theories have surfaced, with some fans claiming that Luke's new pupil Rey might be the one to turn against him. Speculations are also rife that following Rey's betrayal, Kylo Ren might follow suit.
According to theories, the final moments of the latest trailer tease that as Luke rejects Rey, the apprentice will seek out Kylo Ren for guidance. Also, fans speculate that Luke's aging faults might cause Rey to recognize that his way may not be the best way, turning her back on the fallen Jedi to go her path.
Aside from Rey betraying Luke, another betrayal theory involves Kylo Ren turning against Snoke (Andy Serkis). There are speculations that in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," Kylo Ren might finally realize that his master is merely using him. The recent trailer suggests that Kylo will understand that his master is open to discarding him for a stronger apprentice — Rey — so he might decide to break free from his hold.
"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" will open in theaters on Dec. 15.
