'Star Wars' Trilogy Returning to the Big Screen This Summer
The original "Star Wars" film trilogy which includes "A New Hope," "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" will be finding its way back to the big screen in selected theaters in the US this summer. According to a report in Variety, Alamo Drafthouse, a Texas-based cinema chain is bringing back the trilogy of films in a special screening event this summer.
Dubbed "The Return of the Trilogy" roadshow, the special event will be bringing back the three films as a single triple feature, starting with San Francisco, Kansas, Washington, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, and San Antonio on August 6, followed by Austin, Philadelphia, Louisville, Oakland, and Boston from August 7 onwards. The Variety report includes a complete list of the theaters in these cities.
Alamo's Vice President for Special Events Henri Mazza said that they "jumped at the chance to do something big," after the films became available for such screenings. He also called the event "a real life-altering event and just a supreme amount of fun."
After the box-office success of "The Force Awakens," the "Star Wars" franchise is popular once again, and Alamo's special screening event is a case of "striking while the iron is hot" for the cinema chain, according to a report in Fortune.
According to a Forbes report, tickets for the screenings that will be happening in August will go on sale on May 4, also known as "Star Wars" Day. Fans who purchase the tickets will be treated to "specially curated video content" which will be shown during the screening, before and between films. They will also be able to see props that the franchise used in the films.
The films will be shown in the same format they were released in back in 1997, according to Fortune. This was after George Lucas spent around $15 million to "rework" the films in order to re-release them.
