Stephen King's 'Castle Rock' Hulu Release Date, Details: Upcoming Mystery Thriller Might Be an Anthology Series
Due to the success of Netflix's "Stranger Things" last year, where most fans noticed that it had more or less a Stephen King and Steven Spielberg vibe to it, the 'King of Horror' proceeded to create his own original series with J.J. Abrams and in partnership with streaming service Hulu.
"Castle Rock" will be a mystery thriller series that is going to feature many of King's signature characters and elements.
The show's plot details are still kept under wraps, but many Stephen King fans would be familiar with the "Castle Rock" name as it had been used by the author as a name of a fictional Maine town in several of his works.
The fictional location was already featured in "The Dead Zone," "The Body," and even in King's previous Hulu series, "11.22.63."
The project also revealed its first ever teaser clip, but little can be drawn out about what the show could be really about.
The clip, however, revealed several creatures and places that supposedly lurk around "Castle Rock," and most of these were already seen in King's previous works, such as Salem's lot, Pennywise, and even his most notable characters such as Annie from "Misery" and Danny from "The Shining."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is possible that King's "Castle Rock" might be an anthology series that follows a different character and story line each season but will have certain interwoven elements in each season which makes the title a cinematic TV universe of its own.
Production studio partner Bad Robot also teased fans by asking a question, "What is the hoax in the forest?"
No release date is set for "Castle Rock" yet, and speculations do not point to a 2017 release as King is still busy with other projects, such as the upcoming "It" and "The Dark Tower" remakes.
