'Stephen King's IT' News: Artist Shares New Artwork of Pennywise in Anime Form, Believes in the Possibility of Animated Iteration
As seen in the blockbuster Stephen King movie adaptation "IT," Pennywise is no doubt the stuff of nightmares in the big screen and it turns out he could be just as terrifying in anime form.
An artist named Mike Anderson reimagined the serial killer clown as an anime character in a new artwork he posted on Instagram. The new graphic is based on another chilling scene from the film.
His creation made fans realize not just how crazy talented Anderson is but also how much they wanted an "IT" anime. In fact, the first image he did evolved into a short clip with a freelance graphic designer named Kevin Duran doing the voiceover.

However, while Anderson believes an "IT" anime will be amazing, he admitted he was upset that Duran used his artwork without asking for his permission. The two has since talked it out though.
In an email to Entertainment Weekly, Anderson, who is better known online as Mikuloctopus, talked about the anime possibility of "IT," revealing that he thinks the new Pennywise look already has an "anime feel to it" already.
I thought the concepts and subject matter of Stephen King's book would be perfect for anime. There seem to be fewer limits in anime. Crazy concepts and unique storytelling are almost expected. The King novel delves into mythologies and settings that a live-action movie may not have the time or budget to fully realize. And even if they could, it may not appeal to mass audiences. Taking It to an anime series would ground the story in a genre where traveling between dimensions and giant monsters are more accepted.
The "IT" movie, which hit the cinemas last month, went on to become the highest grossing horror film of all time in the United States. Pennywise is played in the movie by Bill Skarsgard.
