'Steven Universe: Save the Light' Release Date News: New Character Revealed for Video Game

There is a new Homeworld Gem in town and she will be introduced in the highly-anticipated video game "Steven Universe: Save the Light."

This new character is named Hessonite. She is described as a conceited Homeworld commander who goes to Earth to recover the Prism, an item first featured in the "Steven Universe" mobile game "Attack the Light."

In "Steven Universe: Save the Light," Hessonite will use the Prism into a powerful weapon. For the uninitiated, the Prism features an army of all visible light that can be very destructive when controlled by a powerful Gem.

To be voiced in the game by Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress Christine Baranski, Hessonite also serves as the director of the Squaridot (a square Peridot), who will make her debut in the upcoming game.

A gameplay trailer for "Steven Universe: Save the Light" clip shows Hessonite in action where it is suggested that she has been on Earth in the past. No new details have been revealed about her story though.

With the mystery surrounding Hessonite as well as Squaridot, many fans are hoping that the new characters will be brought to the Cartoon Network animated series as well.

For now, however, "Steven Universe: Save the Light" is the only way to get to know these two new characters. The game will be released to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Oct. 31.

Versions of the game for the Nintendo Switch and PC, while not confirmed yet, are planned. As developer Grumpyface revealed on Tumblr:

"Save the Light" coming to PC and Switch is something we really want to make happen as soon as we can, but sadly it couldn't happen in time for launch. I'm also afraid I do not have any timeframes or confirmations I can share at this time.

We do hope everyone knows we hear the demand loud and clear, AND we want it on these platforms just as much as you guys (we're huge Nintendo fans ourselves). The reality is that there's both publishing logistics involved, and also the nature of our team being on the smaller side and under heavy load doing all we can to get the game out in the best state for the first platforms we were able to start with.

It is also revealed there that the team only includes nine full-timers so it will be extra difficult and time-consuming to optimize "Steven Universe: Save the Light" for the Switch and PC. The same goes for a mobile version, which is unlikely at this time.
