Stevie Crecelius Woman Discovery: Married Man Told He's Female (VIDEO)
Steve Crecelius and his wife Debbie went to the hospital one day to view results for a kidney stone ultrasound, but instead discovered something that would change their world. Determined to share his story, Steve has opened up to the world about his experience.
Five years ago, Steve and Debbie were a modern day Brady Bunch. With six children, two of which were his and four of which were hers from a previous marriage; they had been married for 20 years.
However, instead of receiving ultrasound results about a kidney stone, Steve was shockingly told by doctors that he was actually a woman.
"She said, 'You're female,'" Steve relayed to The Denver Post.
Doctors informed Steve that he was intersex and had both male and female parts. For his wife, it was not much of a surprise. For her, it was something that she had "always wanted to talk…about." For Steve, it was something that he had never wanted to admit.
"I didn't want to know what her reaction would be. But [the medical discovery] validated everything I felt," Steve admitted.
Divorce, however, was not an option for this couple.
"We'd worked so hard to build our relationship and our family," Steve said. "That to start over again with somebody--"
"God, to have to break in somebody new!" Debbie cut in.
Debbie proved herself to be dedicated and supporting, nursing Steve's confidence and helping him come to terms over how he would lead his life from then on.
Steve has told his family members the news one by one, and all have been accepting of the surprising news.
Steve has also decided to slowly reveal to his family that he wanted to embrace his female side, and now dresses as a woman.
"People need to be accepting and understand," Stevie Crecelius told ABC News. "I was born this way, and loving each other and supporting each other will always be the main factor in our household."
