Stomach Bug 2013: 250 Across 6 States Catch Serious Illness, Some Hospitalized (VIDEO)
A stomach bug has struck down more than 250 people across at least six states, according to a new report by the CDC.
The stomach bug has been linked to foodborne illness, according to the Centers for Disease Control, which has released a statement reporting that as of July 22, the cyclospora infection has spread to hundreds of people.
The stomach bug, which causes diarrhea and other flu-like symptoms, has been detected in Iowa, Nebraska, Texas, Wisconsin, Georgia and Connecticut.

According to reports, both Illinois and Kansas have also notified agency representatives that they have detected one case each, which they believe may have been contracted out of state but within the United States.
At least 10 people have been hospitalized with the illness, according to the CDC, with a majority of the illnesses occurring between mid-June and early July.
The cyclospora infections is reportedly found most often in tropical or subtropical countries and have been linked to imported fresh produce in the past.
The Food and Drug Administration is investigating, but are not yet clear on whether the cases emerging from each state are connected to the same outbreak, or whether they are independent of one another.

The CDC announced that the number of infected people increased from 200 to 250 with an announcement on Tuesday, but the body has warned that the number is likely to increase further.
