'Stranger Things 2' Reviews Released, Plot Explained

"Stranger Things 2," a full season follow-up to the first show, is now out on Netflix. Fans will be happy to report that season 2 actually lives up to the huge hype that's been worked up until the show's release.

The anticipation has been immense, and luckily for fans, "Stranger Things 2" does not disappoint. Where most successful shows would flounder the further they go in their sequel episodes, this one shines, instead, as Forbes notes.

It's a tall order for the new season just when the first "Stranger Things" left things off at its highest point, cutting off with something of a cliff-hanger that also manages to tie off all its loose ends. The new season does not miss a beat, however, deftly working in its own twists and introducing new members of the cast who all fit in almost flawlessly.

Without spoiling things too much, the second season takes place about a year since the events of the first season. That places "Stranger Things 2" at around Halloween of 1984, according to Vox.

It's a great way to deal with adding new storylines without crowding the timeline of "Stranger Things." There's a more pragmatic reason for this skip, however, and it's to keep up with the changes of its young and fast-growing cast, according to Wired.

Growing up means a lot of changes to the characters, too, with Will (Noah Schnapp) and Nancy, (Natalia Dyer) who is Mike's (Finn Wolfhard) older sister, giving out the first signs that things will get weird again this time of the year.

The two goes through a bit of trauma related to the events of the year before, which drives the plot of "Stranger Things 2" to its new journey.

"Stranger Things 2" is now out on Netflix, and it received a 94 percent rating from Rotten Tomatoes from both critics and audience members; a rating that's a "Certified Fresh" for the new season.
