'Stranger Things' Plot Recap News: Here's a Refresher Before Watching Season 2
"Stranger Things" season 2's premiere on Netflix is days away. Since the first season's launch was more than a year ago, here's a quick of refresher about what really happened before watching season 2.
"Stranger Things" anchored its story on the disappearance of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp). His friends Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) went on a whirlwind adventure in finding him. They befriended a mysterious girl named Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) who told them about the Upside Down.
Will's mom Joyce (Winona Ryder) and police chief Hopper (David Harbour) also helped the boys and Eleven pieces together Will's disappearance, along with the teens Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton). The chief learned about the anomalies at Hawkins Laboratory and also met Dr. Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine), who has been tracking one of the test subjects, Eleven.
The Upside Down is an alternate world ruled by monsters and a Demogorgon. Its portal is inside the laboratory, which Will eventually escapes with everyone's help. In the process, however, they lose Eleven who killed the monsters so Will could live. Dr. Brenner's fate is also undetermined following his encounter with the Demogorgon.
One month following Will's rescue, the anomalies at Hawkins Laboratory became public knowledge because of Joyce, who made sure it gets shut down. Will might seem back to normal by the end of "Stranger Things" season 1 but things will still get worse for him in the second season. Will isn't the same person who returned from the Upside Down and he's seen coughing up a slug while secretly excusing himself in the bathroom.
Meanwhile, Chief Hopper might have a clue as to where Eleven really is. He might have also uncovered some details about her real identity. A teaser for season 2 showed Eleven finally going home to her mom after 12 years.
"Stranger Things" season 2 will launch nine episodes on Friday, Oct. 27, at 3:00 a.m. EST on Netflix. Season 1 is still available for streaming on the platform.
