'Stranger Things' Season 2 News: New Season Will Introduce Dustin's New Slimy Friend from the Upside Down

A new promo for "Stranger Things" season 2 hints at the arrival of a new outlandish creature. This comes after details about the new season surfaced last spring, where it was revealed that Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) would get a pet that's not from this world — a slimy, amphibious creature from the Upside Down named Pollywog.

Promo materials previously released for the new season of the hit series teased the arrival of new characters. This shouldn't come as a surprise for fans, considering how things were presented in the previous season. The first season of the series heavily focused on the Demogorgon, Eleven's (Millie Bobby Brown) special power, and the Upside Down. However, it did not cover the larger world of otherworldly organisms.

Ahead of the season 2 premiere, it was revealed that a shadow monster would emerge in Hawkins. However, he won't be the only one, as Pollywog from the Upside Down will reportedly be introduced this season as well. His arrival was teased earlier this week via the official Twitter page of the series, which posted strange images of footprints and slime trails. Shortly afterward, the page posted a video offering a glimpse of the slimy creature.

While the video does not offer a close look at Pollywog, it is clear enough to show that the creature is somewhere between a tadpole and a frog. It also has tendrils and leaves some slimy residue as it snakes through Hawkins. Despite lack of announcement as to when the Pollywog will arrive this season, the title of the third episode, "The Pollywog," suggests that it's when viewers will finally get to see the creature.

Meanwhile, the new season of "Stranger Things" is expected to be far more startling than the first season. In a recent interview, Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers in the series, said that his character is "front and center" throughout season 2 and that it's going to be a terrifying journey for him. "This year was the year I drank the most tea. I had a lot of screaming this season," he said.

"Stranger Things" season 2 premiered Oct. 27 on Netflix.
