'Stranger Things' to Film Season 3 and 4 Back-To-Back? Here's Why Netflix Wants This Done
Netflix is pushing to ramp up filming of "Stranger Things" ahead of the second season premiere this October. An insider reveals the streaming platform's plan, but what's the reason behind this and will it push through?
According to a source who told The Hollywood Reporter exclusively, Netflix wants "Stranger Things" to film season 3 and 4 back-to-back as soon as possible. Executives of the streaming site worry about the impact of its stars who are all peaking puberty.
"Every time you have a show that relies so heavily on the charm of kids, you want to capture that," the source said.
But "Stranger Things" creator Matt and Ross Duffer opposed Netflix's plan as expediting the show will be impossible for the writers creatively. The Duffer brothers would instead want to deliver stories that will reflect the actors' age as the show moves along. A time jump could be in order after season 2.
Netflix already renewed "Stranger Things" for season 3 in August. The Duffer brothers believe that the show could cap off for one last season, but then Netflix has yet to greenlit season 4.
"We just have to keep adjusting the story," Matt told Vulture in an exclusive interview. "Though I don't know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year."
Meanwhile, apart from the show's main child actors under 15-years-old, such as Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair) and Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) , the second season will introduce teener Sadie Sink (Max). Her character will have a pivotal role in the new installment with her complicated childhood.
All nine episodes of "Stranger Things" season 2 will be released on Friday, Oct. 27, at 3:00 a.m. EST on Netflix. The show also stars Winona Ryder (Joyce Bryer) and David Harbour (Chief Hopper).
