'Styx: Shards of Darkness' Release Date, News: Title Allows Co-op Play in Every Mission

Stealth games, as the name implies, has always been a test of outmaneuvering the enemy without getting noticed. In Cyanide Studio's upcoming title "Styx: Shards of Darkness," they show that two can most of the time do a better job than going in alone.

In the latest trailer, it is shown that players can accomplish assassinations in groups of two. While one serves as a distraction or a decoy to lure the enemy, the other can swoop in to silence the enemy, making every mission easier and even more flexible than the normal stealth tactics.

What's worth noting is aside from having double the advantage over foes, having two players working as one would mean it is twice the humor. They can be heard making hilarious references to certain pop culture themes such as Disney. The language is also overflowing with curses, thus is meant for more mature audiences.

Despite making it easier to carry out missions with a partner, it also makes one vulnerable to being spotted. With this in mind, it is very important to ensure that the two players collaborate well in order to take down the enemies swiftly without raising suspicion.

The biggest difference between "Styx: Shards of Darkness" and other games within the stealth genre is when cooperative play can be implemented. According to Focus Home Interactive's official website, players are free to call for backup anytime in any given mission.

"Work together to create elaborate distractions, unleash dastardly synchronized assassinations, and run circles around larger enemies — every level and mission is playable in co-op and will open a new array of gameplay possibilities," the website says.

With this in mind, the title allows for flexible gameplay. Whether a player decides to finish quests alone or recruit help, that is entirely up to one's creative tactics.

"Styx: Shards of Darkness" is set to stealthily crawl into PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One and PC platforms on March 14, 2017.
