'Suicide Squad 2' News, Release Date: Jared Leto Praises Director O'Connor
The production for "Suicide Squad 2" has never been smooth sailing, but that did not stop actor Jared Leto from saying that its director was "the perfect director" he could think of for the sequel. Recently, the actor, who played Joker in the first "Suicide Squad' movie, gave his thoughts on director Gavin O'Connor in an interview and said that he had nothing but words of praise for the renowned filmmaker.
According to Leto, O'Connor is a talented director, and he couldn't think of a better one to helm the next "Suicide Squad" movie. "I think Gavin is incredibly talented, he seems to be the perfect director for 'Suicide Squad 2.' I think he's a really gifted filmmaker and I really love his work," he said.
Although Leto did not tell his reasons for admiring O'Connor's work, it looks like his admiration for the director makes him more committed to his role as Joker in the upcoming film. Previously, O'Connor revealed that "Suicide Squad 2" would feature more of Leto's character, whose screen time in the first movie did not even come close to the amount of time that fans wanted to see the character. What made fans even more disappointed was the fact that Joker was extremely hyped in the film's marketing campaign, only to find out that his role was minor in the actual film.
"Suicide Squad" currently has a poor rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite its poor critical reviews, however, the film managed to become one of DC's most successful films of 2016, earning $325.1 million in the U.S. and $420 million overseas.
Meanwhile, aside from Leto returning as Joker and O'Connor directing the film, little is known about "Suicide Squad 2." DC has yet to confirm if Margot Robbie will return as the fan-favorite Harley Quinn, but fans assume that she will. The film does not have a release date yet, but it is expected to be out by 2019.
