'Suicide Squad' Movie News: Ben Affleck Hats off to Jared Leto's Portayal of the Joker
Although "Suicide Squad" is about the ensemble of the bad guys Batman fights in his world, many people are looking forward to the film. Basing on the trailers of the movie, one can easily tell that it bodes well for an action-packed entertainment. Nonetheless, it can't also be denied that one of the reasons why the movie is being looked forward to is Jared Leto's performance as the Joker.
The latest released trailer of "Suicide Squad's validated earlier reports that Ben Affleck's Batman does a cameo in the movie. In one of the scenes shown on the trailer, Affleck's Batman is seen running after Leto's Joker. Though their characters are forever at odds with each other, Affleck has high praises for the actor who breathes life to his character's most famous arch nemesis.
"I think Jared Leto was a genius but I'm bound by more confidentiality agreements than you can shake a stick at. I'm just going about my business… He's brilliant. Masterful. Brilliant, brilliant guy," said Affleck, as reported by Inquisitr, when he guested on "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien."
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Leto disclosed that he desired to make the character his own and different from how he was interpreted by previous actors who gave life to him, adding that re-inventing and redefining a character is interesting to a certain extent.
"Whether you're a composer working on a piece of music that was written a century ago, or you're an actor on stage, reinterpreting a play, it's very common these days. Directors take on great works of cinema, actors reinterpret roles, that's been going on for a great deal of time," Leto explained.
Meanwhile, there are theories floating that Leto's Joker character in "Suicide Squad" may just have a link to the currently showing "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." While this shouldn't be a big deal as they exist in DC Cinematic Universe, the real catch is that he is Batman's erstwhile Robin after all.
According to Hollywood, there are some hints in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" that could establish this fan theory, one of which is Affleck's Batman saying that nobody stays good for long. While it is true that the line may refer to Bruce Wayne himself, fans think that it can also refer to Jason Todd, Batman's second Robin. Another hint could be the scene where Robin's suit has been vandalized by the Joker.
Mind-blowing as it may be, the said fan theory makes some sense to the fans. However, whatever the truth is, it will not take long before the veracity of the speculation to be uncovered as "Suicide Squad" is scheduled to hit the theaters on Aug. 5.
