'Suicide Squad' News: Charles Roven On Jared Leto's Method Acting

The DC universe fandom is all over the upcoming movies that will take theaters by storm starting next year, and one of the movies that producers didn't really expect to get so much attention is "Suicide Squad."

Producer Charles Roven sat with Collider and told of how he and the entire team didn't really see a massive response of mostly positives from moviegoers and DC fans alike.

The movie isn't entirely the superhero one that fans have come to love after several years of having superheroes flood into big screens. With "Suicide Squad," it seems as if the team was fueled with nothing but ambition.

However, as the days passed and filming has wrapped up, fans continued to pour support. Much of the anticipation obviously drew the fire from method actor Jared Leto's performance as Batman's archenemy, The Joker.

Leto is the first to take on the character after Heath Ledger bagged the Oscar's Best Supporting Actor for his performance in "The Dark Knight."

With Ledger's gleaming trophy, Leto surely has a pair of giant shoes to fill. Some fans have expressed their adoration for Leto after seeing a first glimpse of him in the trailer as well as in promo photos released.

Roven himself was impressed with how Leto took the challenge and used his famed method acting in during filming. "The group first wasn't sure because the AD's had to call him 'Mr. J' to get him to come to the set," Roven said in a happy tone.

Fans very well know from previous interviews with Leto's co-stars that the actor really put a lot of effort into his character. Roven confirmed the reports saying, "He did in many ways isolate himself from the rest of the group," adding that there's no question Leto will pull off his character since The Joker is all about being the most unique one in the set.

The producer went on to discuss how the film was put to place. He admitted that it wasn't a huge plan just like how well-thought of and organized "Batman v Superman" was. The movie actually came from small beginnings — in the form of a "pitch" from director David Ayer.

Roven further explained that Ayer's "pitch" immediately took a green light and organizing the production started. Finally, the executive said, "It was one of the most fun sets ever."

Joining Leto's Joker is Will Smith's Deadshot, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje's Killer Croc, and many more.

"Suicide Squad" is slated for a March 25, 2016 release.
