"Suicide Squad" News: Filming Done, More Plot Details Revealed With Trailer
"Suicide Squad" is the upcoming anti-hero film from Warner Bros. Studios, which is part of the films in its DC Universe. Set to bow in theaters on August 5, 2016, it is a movie about an unlikely group of supervillains who are, strangely enough, tasked by the U.S. government to conduct the most dangerous black ops missions. According to a report in Den of Geek, filming for the movie has concluded and this was confirmed by David Ayer when he posted an "It's a wrap!" photo with the whole cast and crew on his Twitter account recently.
Now that production is finally over and the studio can go into post-production work, fans are getting excited as more details about the movie are spilling out.
According to International Business Times UK, the Joker's role would be to explain the origin of one of the members of the squad, Harley Quinn. In the trailer, the Joker is shown with some scary electric shock therapy machine as he hovers over a terrified Dr. Harleen Quinzel. Dr. Quinzel was a psychiatrist who treated the Joker in the Arkham Asylum, before she became Harley Quinn.
At the San Diego Comic-Con, a first look trailer of the movie provided an eerie glimpse of the characters in the movie. The trailer first shows Amanda Waller, the woman who created the so-called "Suicide Squad," which is made up or bad guys or "the worst of the worst." She said, "I want to assemble some of the most dangerous people in the planet who I think can do some good. And if anything goes wrong, we can blame them. We have built-in deniability."
The trailer however does not provide any detail about each of the cast of characters. A Polygon report provided some details which are mainly based on how these characters appeared in the comics. What is not known is how faithful the movie will be to the characters' back stories in the comics.
Not all the members of the squad are bad guys. Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman) is actually a government spy with a military history, tasked to take the lead of this band of misfits. Katana (Karen Fukuhara) is actually a not-so-known DC Comics hero, who fought against injustice with her sword. Another character, El Diablo, was originally a DC Comics hero in the Old West, but according to the report, the character in the movie is "a recent incarnation" of the character called Chato Santana.
The rest of the members of the squad are certified supervillains. Will Smith's Deadshot is an assassin for hire who will kill anyone for the right price. Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie, is one of the better known villains among the bunch. Otherwise known as the Joker's girlfriend and partner, she has deadly skills as an acrobat and is armed with lots of tricks up her sleeve. Jai Courtney plays the Australian villain, Captain Boomerang, who is known for his boomerang throwing and assembling boomerang devices and weapons.
Cara Delevingne plays The Enchantress, an evil sorceress with tremendous powers. She has another side of her personality however, in the person of young artist June Moone. Killer Croc is portrayed by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and he is shown in the movie as a huge man with scaly, crocodile-like skin and features. Slipknot, played by Adam Beach, is a criminal who is skilled in using ropes to kill people.
The Joker, although part of the movie's trailer, is not likely to be part of the Suicide Squad. His role in the movie may be central however, given the media hype that his character has been getting early on. According to the report, he may even be the film's main villain, but this is unconfirmed.
