Suits Renewed for Season 7; Will it be the show's final season?
The show's 100th episode will be in Season 7
USA Network announced on Wednesday that it is renewing Suits for a seventh season. The legal drama is the network's longest running original scripted series. The 16-episode Suits Season 7 will premiere in 2017.
Suits Season 6
The renewal comes three episodes into Season 6 and next season will push the series through its 100th episode. It will be the fifth USA scripted series to achieve such after Monk, Burn Notice, Psych and Royal Pains.
In the current Season 6, Mike Ross (Patrick Adams) is facing the reality of prison life after signing a plea bargain admitting he was a fraud and that he was not a real lawyer. The season also focuses on his relationship with his fiancee, Rachel (Meghan Markle), and the future of Pearson Specter and Litt that both hang in the balance. The firm is specially fighting to survive following the partners' mass exodus at the Season 5 finale.
Season 6 ratings
Suits continues to bring in solid ratings by averaging more than 3 million viewers in season 6. This is however a slight dip from its Season 5 ratings. The mid-season finale is slated to air on August 10.
Suits also stars Gabriel Macht, Gina Torres, Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle and Sarah Rafferty. It was created and is executive produced by Aaron Korsh.
Korsh said of the series' impressive run, "I would say we're not in the upswing the show's life cycle. I don't know how close we are to the end, but I know we're very likely closer to the end than we are to the beginning."
A bit of history of Mike and Rachel
Will Season 6 see Mike and Rachel finally getting married or will that be saved for Season 7? Korsh said that not getting married will be easier for the couple than being apart for the almost two years. More than anything, it is Mike's being in prison that will affect their relationship.
Looking back, Rachel and Mike became friends after a rocky start in Season 1. At that time, Mike was dating someone else but that did not stop Rachel from kissing him.
In Season 2, Mike and Rachel were having an on-off relationship. This is also the season where he admitted to her that he never went to Harvard much less studied law.
Without any more secrets between them, Mike and Rachel started on a clean slate in Suits Season 3. They were also able to sort out a little misunderstanding that made their relationship even stronger.
Their relationship was once again put to the test when Rachel's ex, Logan Sanders, entered the picture and caused the couple's brief separation. They were also able to weather that storm. The season finale saw Mike propose to Rachel.
When Mike went to prison for committing fraud in Suits Season 5, Rachel became his biggest supporter. She was determined to marry him even if her parents were strongly opposed to it. She was also understanding when Mike took it upon himself to call off their wedding so her future as a lawyer will not be jeopardized.
