'Sunday Best' Runner-Up Jessica Reedy Tops Gospel Charts
BET’s “Sunday Best” runner-up Jessica Reedy topped the Billboard Gospel Album chart earlier this week Thursday with her debut album “From the Heart.”
In addition to topping the Billboard Gospel Charts, “From the Heart” also debuts at number 43 on the Billboard 200 and number 5 on the Independent Albums chart. On the iTunes, Jessica Reedy sits atop of the Christian and Gospel charts in its first week.
“From the Heart,” the first album from the “Sunday Best” runner-up features the summer hit Put it on the Altar, which is co-written by Reedy and deals with finding the solutions to one’s problems. The single is currently climbing the gospel charts to the Top 20.
Jessica Reedy explains the eclectic sound of her album in an interview. She said, "I would have to describe my music as heart songs. It's music from my heart about the one I love the most. I don't really know the style or category it fits in … it's just me."
Reedy first gained notoriety by appearing on the second season of the hit BET reality singing competition “Sunday Best.” She beat out hundreds to make it to the final round of the series. She eventually lost to take the runner-up spot.
In a strange turn of events, Jessica Reedy’s album replaces fellow “Sunday Best” album and season three winner Leandria Johnson. Her album drops to number 2 this week.
Elsewhere on the Gospel Album chart, 116 Clique debuts at number 3, LeCrae drops to the number 4, and Kirk Franklin’s album rounds out the top 5.
