'Super Mario Odyssey' Gameplay News: Nintendo's 3D Platformer Receives Close to Perfect Review

"Super Mario Odyssey" has a new review for Nintendo Switch and it was close to perfect.

The latest review was made by Japanese publication Famitsu. They game the upcoming title a score of 39 out of 40. Though it did not manage to nab a perfect score, "Super Mario Odyssey" was the highest scoring game in the issue.

The 3D platform video game revolutionizes the franchise. Now, the Italian plumber's bright red had is more than an aesthetic accessory. It is essential to Mario's journey. The hat named Cappy transforms into many different forms. It can be used to capture Mario's enemies like Goombas and it can be used to pick up items like a tank.

In a multiplayer mode, one player can control Mario while the other controls Cappy.

Though the core of the game remains the same, saving Princess Peach from Bowser, players get to try new abilities, and enter new kingdoms like the concrete jungle of New Donk City, with familiar friends.

Gamers will also be introduced to the Seaside Kingdom, where Mario is set to face one of the best bosses in the game. A giant octopus has bottled up the famous sparkle water, and for Mario to win the battle, he has to capture the local wildlife.

On a different note, Nintendo New York is hosting a "Super Mario Odyssey" launch party later this month.

The company announced that in celebration of the upcoming 3D Mario adventure, Mario and Cappy will celebrate with gamers at Nintendo NY on Oct. 26 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Attendees will be given a sneak peek of a custom trailer. More importantly, gamers in attendance should be able to sample the game.

Nintendo noted that the first 200 guests will be granted access to the event on a first-come-first-served basis.

"Super Mario Odyssey" costs $59.99. The game launches on Oct. 27 on Nintendo Switch.
