'Super Mario Odyssey' News: Amiibo Support Detailed
The highly anticipated "Super Mario Odyssey" will come with amiibo support, but players won't have to worry about purchasing the figures being a requirement to progress in the game.
Nintendo has announced three amiibo figures for the upcoming title featuring Mario, Peachy and Bowser all in the wedding outfits as seen in the game.
The Mario figure will allow "Super Mario Odyssey" players to unlock the character's costume in-game and also endows them temporary invincibility. The Peach amiibo will make her costume available and throws in Life-Up heart in there as well.
Finally, those who pick up the Bowser figure will get to don his wedding outfit within the game and will also be provided with information on the locations of the regional coins.
Nintendo says that the amiibo will not be the only ways to enjoy these perks in "Super Mario Odyssey." As they indicated on the game's page for the figures:
Super Mario Odyssey is compatible with all existing amiibo. Some of them unlock exclusive outfits for Mario, while others give in-game help. Try tapping different amiibo to see what you can get!
Note: All outfits can be unlocked in-game without amiibo.
Gamers and media outlets are happy that Nintendo is giving users the option not to purchase the amiibo and unlock the outfits by working for them in-game. As Destructoid points out, buying the amiibo that will do the job for them takes out all the fun.
Add to that the fact that some gaming studios have developed a habit of having players shell out extra money for content that should already be in the game in the first place or can be unlocked by pouring time and effort, which gamers are willing to do.
"Super Mario Odyssey" will be released on Oct. 27. The wedding-themed amiibo figures are expected to be made available on the same day.
