Super Smash Bros 4 'Pic of the Day' Reveals Playable Girl Villager

The latest Super Smash Bros 4 "pic of the day" reveals a playable girl villager character.

"You can choose to play as the girl villager too!! How lovely," said the game's director Masahiro Sakurai earlier today. See it here.

Sakurai has been on somewhat of a role lately releasing pictures showing off both the Wii U and 3DS Smash Bros. games at a more rapid pace.

Yesterday's picture discussed the "unexpected assist trophy."

"The unexpected Assist Trophy, the TV Game 15! Color TV-Game 15 is a home entertainment system that was released in 1977 in Japan before the release of Space Invaders," said Sakurai. "This is the oldest game to join the Smash Bros. series."

His post also gave more details on the system.

"Normally, controllers for these types of games had knobs with variable resistors-these allowed the players to control in-game movement by how far they twisted the knobs. The TV-Game 15 used microswitches instead. We've worked a little too hard to reenact the behavior of the original, so the paddles always move in linear paths with the same, consistent speed. We pay attention to such peculiar details," he added.

Nintendo confirmed to IGN last month that the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros will launch sometime in the summer this year. Wii U fans will have to wait until the winter to get their hands on this epic fighting title.

Sakurai discussed how multiplayer will work in the game with IGN. He stated that players can play online with friends and can also engage in a handful of different multiplayer modes. There will be two distinct forms for multiplayer including "For Fun" and "For Glory."

For Fun only records players wins, and pits opponents against each other in random stages that include all items. For Glory levels the playing field by removing items and setting every match on a Final Destination version of certain levels. Wins and Losses will be tracked in For Glory.
