Super Smash Bros. Melee download news: New replay feature added by modder
A new replay feature for the 2001 Super Smash Bros. Melee has been created by a modder for fans to enjoy, and though it is not yet official, excitement for the new feature has been expressed by players of the game.
Dan Salvato has been working on features that could expand the game and give fans a better experience. The replay feature is only part of his "20XX Tournament Edition" for Super Smash Bros. Melee, which will be launched in November for free.
Unlike the common replay camera seen in many sports video games, the replay not only records an entire match but it also allows a player to re-enter the match and gain control of the situation at any point. This means a player can finish the match differently than the first time it was concluded.
While his new feature has received a couple of criticisms from some gaming experts, Salvato says his product is targeting the benefits players can get from practice and training. The feature, according to Salvato, will refine a player's fighting tactics and will allow for spotting of mistakes, thus resulting to a better performance in the following matches.
Aside from its recording capabilities, the mod also incorporates the usual features that a replay contains including fast-forward, rewind, frame-by-frame advances, pause, and play. Additionally, a toggle has been installed that shows each of the characters' hit boxes.
According to Polygon, Salvato's 20XX Tournament Edition will come with other surprises that fans will only get to see upon its release but definitely, the replay feature will get the attention of the game's fans.
Salvato hand-coded the feature and it works with the game either on GameCube or Wii, with the use of a memory card — no additional modding, homebrewing, or other methods needed.
As mentioned, the mod is free for download and sharing once it is out, but Salvato welcomes any "preorders" for the cost of a memory card and the shipping fee.
