'Supernatural' Season 11 Spoilers, Cast News: Misha Collins on Playing Castiel; Rob Benedict Returning as Chuck
Actor Misha Collins, who has played the role of Castiel in The CW's popular fantasy horror TV series "Supernatural" since its fourth season, said that more will be revealed about Castiel in a forthcoming episode and shared what it has been like playing the character for the last eight seasons.
In an interview with Variety, the 41-year-old actor hinted at what's next for his character in "Supernatural," saying that while viewers got to see Lucifer pulling the strings in this week's episode, "You're gonna see a little bit of what's going on with Castiel in Episode 18."
Collins, who plays various iterations of Castiel in the series, including Jimmy Novak, Emmanuel, Steve, Leviathan, and Lucifer, also talked about the challenges and perks of inhabiting the character. "The biggest challenge is that Mark Pellegrino has played this character so well that to follow in his footsteps is kind of embarrassing," he said with a laugh.
Other than that, Collins said, playing Castiel has actually been a lot of fun. And because he has played the character for so long, a lot of his work has become "very automatic."
"I know all of his mannerisms without thinking about it, so it's fun to try and take on a completely different character and have to work a little bit harder at it for a little while. And I'm glad that they've given me some good meat to work with for later, so it's been a lot of fun," the actor explained.
Meanwhile, actor Rob Benedict, who played Chuck Shurley, the author who writes about the lives of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester in the series' "Supernatural" books, is set to reprise his role in season 11, TVLine has learned. According to the website, Chuck will appear in episode 20 of the current season.
In the next episode of "Supernatural," titled "Beyond the Mat," Dean and Sam will take some time off to attend a wrestling match, but they soon have to get back to vigilante mode when a wrestler turns up dead.
The 11th season of "Supernatural" airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
