'Supernatural' season 11 spoilers: The brothers team up in order to battle a new villain

Last season, the hit series "Supernatural" ended with a big bang and a jaw-dropping twist as big brother Dean (Jensen Ackles) turned "Death" to dust with its own scythe, instead of killing his own baby brother Sam (Jared Padalecki). Meanwhile, Rowena (Ruth Connell) ended up releasing the darkness, in order to rid Dean of the Mark of Cain.

The new season will see a new big bad villain as the brothers team up in order to battle "The Darkness," while Dean deals with the consequences of killing Death, which includes taking over Death's job to look after lost souls. There is a huge possibility that John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the father of Dean and Sam, will make an appearance next season.

In the upcoming season, fans will be introduced to a new character named Amara (Emily Swallow), a sultry bombshell who is actually the personification of darkness and a threat to everyone — including the angels and the demons. There will be no time jump between the seasons, as season 11's pilot episode will pick up right where it left off in the previous season's finale.

The angel Castiel (Misha Collins) will still be under Rowena's spell in the first episode and Crowley (Mark Sheppard) might be dead after all. The Winchester brothers are bound to have a hard time fighting this new nefarious villain.

The forthcoming season aims to create some more serialization in the show, which is something it is not really known for. There will be a huge two-part episode arc called "Bottle" sometime in the season. In it, fans will see both Sam and Dean in the same place taking on the same case at the same time. There is also going to be an episode that will only take place inside the Chevrolet Impala, Dean's beloved car.

The brand-new season will go back to its original formula, and fans will get to see Dean and Sam fight side by side once more. Fans will also see some interesting flashbacks and some people from the brothers' past.

Actor Jared Padalecki teased the return of Metatron, a villain from last season. Padalecki said that the brothers might have to go to Metatron for help in defeating The Darkness, which predates even the angels. Meanwhile, executive producer Jeremy Carver said that some fan favorites will return to show but in ways that will be unexpected. He also said that bringing in The Darkness will tell a pre-biblical story that has never been told.

Supernatural will air this Oct. 7 on The CW.
