'Supernatural' Season 12 Update, Release Date and Cast Details: Sam, Dean and Mary Reunite as a Family
"Supernatural" Season 12 is going back to its roots and will focus mainly on the story of the Winchester family for the first two episodes.
In the twelfth season of the series, Mary (Samantha Smith), Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam's (Jared Padalecki) mother returns and all of them have to deal with the comeback. It is going to be a reminiscing of the past since they were separated a long time ago.
There are also other things to deal about in the season: Lucifer has escaped and is on the run, and there is the matter of the involvement of the Men of Letters.

Executive producer Bob Singer stated that the British Men of Letters will have a part on what Sam and Dean have been doing and there will be a hunt for Lucifer. Aside from being reunited with their mother, they both have to deal with other events that will happen in Season 12.
Singer also added that since Lucifer is out on the run, he will then have to take on another vessel and in this season of the series, Rick Springfield will be that vessel.
However, the biggest event that the Winchesters will be dealing with in this season is the return of their mother who has been resurrected by Amara. This has been Amara's gift to Dean during the finale of Season 11. The brothers will then deal with their newly-ressurrected mother, as well as the consequences of her return with respect to their lives and their demon-hunting careers.
In a recent report, Smith noted that she is looking forward to playing the role of Mary and for it to be actualized instead of the ideal version. Mary has been shown in the past seasons as a form of a ghost or a dream.
Ackles also added that when their mom died Sam was still a baby and Dean was a child, so they both grew up without a mother. For them, as the series went along, the relationship with their mother was nonexistent. He stated that this Season is going to be interesting for them as they will be bridging the gap for the last thirty years.
"Supernatural" Season 12 will be about the family reunion of the Winchesters and also a fight between the brothers and the Men of Letters.
Series creator Jeremy Carver will not be back for "Supernatural" Season 12 since he will be having a different project in CW titled "Frequency." However it will be Robert Singer and Andrew Dab who will team-up to be the executive producers of the series.
"Supernatural" Season 12 will premiere in October 12, 2016 on CW Network.
