'Supernatural' Season 13 Episode 4 Spoilers: Jack Joins Sam and Dean in Solving a Murder Case
Jack (Alexander Calvert) is joining his guardians in their latest case in the upcoming episode of "Supernatural."
In the episode titled "The Big Empty," the synopsis reveals that Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) will investigate a series of murders. The Winchesters will be interested in a case involving a grief counselor named Mia Vallens (guest star Rukiya Bernard).
When a number of Mia's patients turn out dead, the hunters think that there is something supernatural that caused the incidents. The brothers will be joined by their nephilim ward, Jack. Along the way, all three will reportedly be forced to dwell on their own unresolved grief.

Jack has been steadily becoming an important fixture in Sam and Dean's life. They feel bound to take care of Lucifer's (Mark Pellegrino) child. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Padalecki said that his character feels especially connected to Jack. In season 4, Sam experienced how to succumb to darkness. This is especially true after he sees the young Jack determined to prove that he is not the monster many expect him to be. Even if his parent is the devil, the young nephilim has demonstrated that he is different from Lucifer.
"Sam sees a lot of himself in this kid," Padalecki said. [This season] starts out and Sam's kind of lying to himself and maybe he doesn't even realize, 'I'm actually reaching out to this kid because I've been in those shoes where Dean thought I was a monster.' Sam was the kid who didn't really have his footing; he didn't really know his place."
Last episode, Dean teamed up with Jody (guest star Kim Rhodes) to hunt down a wraith. The specter had developed a taste for psychics after killing one. A woman named Missouri (guest star Loretta Devine) asked for their help when the wraith started to target her granddaughter, Patience (guest star Clark Backo). Sam was left to babysit Jack and be on guard against the dark forces that kept on coming for him.
"Supernatural" season 13 airs on Thursdays at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
