Besides releasing the latest iteration to its Surface laplet series, the Surface Pro 4, Microsoft also unveiled earlier this month its response to Google's Chromebook Pixel and to Apple's iPad Pro, the Surface Book. Packed with promising specs and attractive features, consumers may come to a point where they have to choose which one to pick. Here's a piece by piece look at each of the devices.
In terms of displays (via NeuroGadgets.com), Microsoft's Surface Book leads with a 13.5-inch screen with resolution at 3000 x 2000 pixels giving a pixel density of 267 ppi. Next to its display size is Apple's iPad Pro which came out with 12.9-inch Retina, LED-backlit, multi-touch display with a 2,732 x 2048 resolution at 264 pixels per inch. Slightly lagging behind is the Chromebook Pixel which reportedly measures 12.85-inch and supports a resolution of 2,560 x 1,700 pixels at 239 ppi.
Under the hood, the Chromebook device has an Intel Core i5 processor clocking at 1.8GHz paired with either 8 or 16GB DDR3 RAM. Its graphics is the Intel HD Graphics 4000. Variants come in either 32 or 64GB SSD internal storage.
The one from the Cupertino-based tech giant, on the other hand, boasts a much powerful A9x processor chip, touted to give off twice the memory band than its earlier version. It is now reportedly possible to have multiple apps running simultaneously, side by side.
Talking about specs, the Surface Book is coming in two variants of Intel Skylake dual-core processors which is the i5-6300U (clocking from 2.4 up to 3.0GHz) and the i7-6600U (clocking at 2.6 up to 3.4GHz). Both variants are paired with the Intel HD Graphics and come in either 8 or 16GB LPDD3 RAM sizes. It also has an optional Nvidia GeForce GPU support dock that will surely delight gamers.
Talking about prices, the lowest of the three is Apple's gizmo which starts at $799 (32GB) and up to $949 (128GB). The Chromebook Pixel, meanwhile, sells at a $999 price tag. The Surface Book, on the other hand, is the most expensive of the three as it starts selling at $1,499 for its basic version.
