Surface Phone Rumors: Microsoft Working on the Device, Codenames it as 'Andromeda'

Despite Microsoft's recent announcement that it is killing its Windows Phone, rumors about the Redmond-based company's mystical Surface Phone continues to circulate online.

There is no denying that the Surface Phone has been one of the most talked-about mobile devices. While Microsoft has recently announced that it is ending the Windows Phone and that it would only deliver updates for bug fixes to the users the device, recent rumors claim that the company may, indeed, be working on the Surface Phone.

According to recent reports, the Redmond-based company is working on a device supposedly codenamed "Andromeda," which is a foldable tablet to run on Windows 10. While the device is said not meant to replace the smartphone, it is suggested that it can function as a sort of a digital pocket notebook.

As of this writing, it remains unclear whether the supposed device Microsoft is working on will, indeed, be called the Surface Phone. However, it is suspected that it could be a pen-based foldable PC with phone capabilities, which is in line with Microsoft CEO's statement last year, saying that, while the company is not done with the mobile phone market, its next mobile device will not look like the smartphones of today.

"We will continue to be in the phone market not as defined by today's market leaders, but by what it is that we can uniquely do in what is the most ultimate mobile device," Nadella told the Australian Financial Review last year.

While there are many rumors attached to the Surface Phone, one that has persisted for months is the one claiming that it will be a foldable device. Speculation on this possibly being the case of the mysterious phone stemmed from the patent Microsoft applied for and has been awarded, which leaked earlier this year.

As the leaked photos of the said patent show that the so-called Surface Phone would be a foldable device, and the recent rumors claim that it will be the case, there is no denying that they are all in sync with Nadella's claim that Microsoft's next mobile device will be unique, indeed.

The question is: Will It be called the Surface Phone? Microsoft outsiders can only speculate for now.
