Surface Pro News: Microsoft to Cancel Development of Tablet?

Microsoft fans were afraid that their Surface Pro tablet will also receive the axe sooner or later. Microsoft immediately responded to the rumors.

With the current competition in the technological market reaching new and more intense heights, companies are making riskier decisions to keep up with the tide. Nokia recently shut down its Ozo virtual reality camera to focus on other products, while Microsoft inadvertently announced that the Windows 10 Mobile will no longer be receiving any hardware upgrades.

According to Business Insider, Microsoft's corporate vice president of devices Panos Panay responded to the rumors that they were killing off their Surface lineup by saying that it is "so far from the truth" and dismissed it as the "tabloid rumor of the week." The rumors came after executives from Dell and Lenovo predicted that Microsoft might have to shut down their device production and focus their attention on areas where they profit the most.

"Microsoft is making a lot of money on cloud, making a lot of money on Windows and Office, but losing a lot of money on devices. And frankly speaking, it is difficult to see why they should keep losing money," said Lenovo's corporate president Gianfranco Lanci, as reported by Tech Radar.

Panay further emphasized that Microsoft's projects were not made to generate profit. Instead, it is considered as the physical output of their beliefs and how they think they can bring change to the world. Panay also pointed out that even though they had suffered poor sales for the Surface RT tablet, Microsoft did not stop developing and following up on the lineup.

Currently, Microsoft's Surface Pro, which was released earlier this year, remains as one of the best tablets to be released. Fans can head over to stores to grab one now.
