'Survivor' Season 34 Spoilers, Latest News: Show Alters Two Strategy-Defining Rules in a Season of Standouts
The 34th season of the long-running competitive reality series, "Survivor," has brought back together 20 former castaways who have changed the name of the game during their run. It's a no-holds-barred season with some of the wiliest strategists the show has ever seen vying for the title of Sole Survivor.
The season began with back-to-back episodes that ushered in 20 returning castaways, who have been hand-picked for their ability and willingness to make the kind of moves that can drastically change the course of the game. The tribes have been set, with Nuku sporting the blue buffs and Mana rocking the red/orange buffs.
One bad thing about two-hour specials in "Survivor" is that there will almost always be two castaways voted out. Game changers Ciera Eastin from "Survivor: Blood vs. Water" and "Survivor: Cambodia" was first to go, while Tony Vlachos, winner of "Survivor: Cagayan," followed suit soon after.
In an interview with TV Guide, host Jeff Probst revealed one of the show's very own game-changing twists, which concerns finding and eventually using the hidden immunity idols. The ongoing theme for the current season is that the castaways will have to work hard to deserve whatever advantage may be accorded them.
"There is a common theme now, which is, you're going to have to work to find an idol. Even if you find it, you're going to have to work to get it open. Or if you find it, you're going to have to put it together, [take] some sort of risk that you're doing in public," Probst said.
In another interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Probst talked about another rule change that will be implemented this season: that is, there will no longer be a revote in the event of a tie, and things will instead proceed right away to a tiebreaker.
"It's too early to know if it's a good idea or not, but I can tell you what the impetus for it was," Probst revealed.
