'Survivor's Remorse' to End After Season 4
"Survivor's Remorse" will not be around after its fourth season. Starz has elected not to renew the basketball drama comedy, which will wrap up with a season finale on Sunday, Oct. 15.
The fourth season finale of the show will now also be the last for "Survivor's Remorse," the basketball comedy which counts NBA superstar LeBron James as an executive producer. The show will not survive past this weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Starz has chosen to drop the show four years after it debuted in 2014. "We have been fortunate to work with incredible talents like Mike O'Malley, the executive producers and our cast on this very special show for four seasons," Starz president Chris Albrecht said in a statement last Tuesday, Oct. 10.
"While this may be the end of the Calloways' story, we do believe that the themes Survivor's Remorse confronted over the seasons, through a unique mix of humor and sober observation, will be appreciated for the insightful, heartfelt way they were addressed," Albrecht added, noting the warm reception by critics towards the show.
"We are proud of the show," he concluded, as quoted by Deadline. While the show has earned success early on by reaching out to women and African-American segments of their viewership, Starz saw the numbers for "Survivor's Remorse" plummet in its latest season.
By the time season 4 was approaching its finale, the show was averaging less than 600,000 viewers.
The show tells the story of Cam Calloway (Jessie T. Usher), an up and coming basketball star who must deal with the limelight and its surrounding issues when he was unexpectedly signed up with a pro team in Atlanta.
"Answers and Questions," the show's two-part season finale, will round out the story of the Calloways. The final episode of "Survivor's Remorse" will be airing this Sunday, Oct. 15, at 10 p.m. EDT on Starz.
