Synthetic marijuana is sending more and more people to emergency rooms in the US.
The artificial drug has a lot of names including K2, Spice, Black Mamba, Kronic and more. Synthetic marijuana is aimed to mimic the high of weed but what makes it dangerous is that it is made with man-made chemicals that wreak havoc to the human body.
K2 Synthetic Marijuana Overdose Increase Hospital Emergencies
The possible latest victims of the K2 synthetic marijuana are 33 people in Brooklyn. The victims reportedly collapsed on a sidewalk in Stockton Street between the hours of 9:30 am to 11:00 pm, CNN reported.
The victims were rushed to nearby hospitals and it was noted that they were suffering from labored breathing and generally not being mentally present. The authorities believe that the strange incident is related to one another and they strongly suspect synthetic marijuana K2 overdose.
K2 Synthetic Marijuana Acquisition, Deaths
UPI reported that there have been at least 20 deaths from synthetic marijuana in 2011 to 2015 according to the data by the US Drug Enforcement Administration. Additionally, poison control centers have received 330 percent more calls related to K2 in the first few months of 2015.
An expert told the outlet that synthetic marijuana deteriorates a person quickly and they have a habit of becoming irritable and aggressive. K2 users may also become lethargic, sleepy and unable to stand on their own.
Authorities have tried to interfere with this growing drug trend but the operatives behind synthetic marijuana have become smarter. What's more, these drugs are cheap and can be sold anywhere in the US in plain sight like convenience stores and other shops.
K2 Synthetic Marijuana Components, Overdose Symptoms
Synthetic marijuana like K2 is made up of chemicals that mimic the effects of THC, the psychoactive ingredient THC in marijuana that gives the "high." According to NBC News, the possible reason why many people die from K2 is because it can be at least 100 times more potent than the natural THC in weed.
In the US, synthetic marijuana like K2 have already been reported as causes of death in various drug overdose cases in the country. These dangerous compounds take over the body and can cause death, kidney damage, coma, delirium and heart damage, WebMD noted.
