Tampa Bay Buccaneers Scheduled to Hold Tryouts for Kickers
It appears that Nick Folk may be in danger of losing his job as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' placekicker after a string of disappointing outings.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has reported that the Buccaneers are bringing in several kickers for a tryout on Monday. Josh Lambo, Andrew Franks and Mike Nugent are reportedly on their list as possible candidates.
Rapoport said the team invited former Kansas City Chiefs kicker Cairo Santos as well and he's reportedly their top choice. However, He is still dealing with an adductor sprain in his groin and he's weeks away from returning to the field.
Marshall Koehn and former Buccaneers kicker Pat Murray were also invited for tryouts, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter has said that they weren't going to make any "rash decisions" after Folk missed three field goals in their 19–14 loss to the New England Patriots last Thursday, but they have to keep their options open because Folk's struggling badly right now.
Folk doesn't seem to be worried about the possibility of losing his place on the team, though, and he told ESPN that "it's just part of business."
"You have to be able to evaluate yourself, look at it and improve, learn, see what went wrong, make the corrections and move forward," Folk said, via ESPN. "Just go out there and swing. Don't make it too hard. It's not real hard when you get down to it," he added.
Folk actually did really well during training camp and the preseason, and his performance convinced the Buccaneers to release Roberto Aguayo before the start of the season. That's why a lot of people were surprised by his sudden dip in form.
"There are a couple there that you're expecting him to make. When I say, 'We're disappointed today' at opportunities that we missed, that's at a lot of different positions. That's certainly one," Koetter said, according to ESPN.
