'Tangled' is Coming to TV in 2017
Disney is bringing Rapunzel to the small screen. An animated series based on the 2010 animated movie "Tangled" is being developed for the Disney channel. The show is set to air sometime in 2017.
The series is bringing back Mandy Moore as the voice of Rapunzel and Zachary Levi as the voice of Eugene, also known as Flynn Rider. Both were the voice actors in the movie as well as the 2012 short film "Tangled Ever After." Disney is set on following the success of the short which was said to have garnered five million viewers when it was first shown on Disney Channel.
The animated series is expected to bring in more music, with Alan Menken, the movie's composer and Glenn Slater, the lyricist, returning to work on the series. Chris Sonnenberg of "Enchanted" is executive producing as well as serving as supervising director, while Shane Pigmore of "The Lego Movie" is co-executive producer and creator director.
"Tangled," the TV series will be set between the events of the movie and the start of "Tangled Ever After." Rapunzel is back in her kingdom and she tries to re-acquaint herself with life as a princess and with her parents, as well as the people of Corona. In the process, she finds out that she has much more to learn before she can really fulfil her royal destiny.
For her, the only way to learn is to go to on "epic adventures," which of course her father, the King objected to. She foregoes her marriage to Eugene and puts down her crown in the meantime. On her adventures, she is joined by Eugene, her chameleon sidekick Pascal, Maximus the horse, the Snuggly Duck Pub thugs, and a new handmaiden named Cassandra.
Jase Ricci, who also worked on "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," is the series' story editor, while Kevie Kliesch of "Tangled Ever After" is the score composer.
This Disney Television Animation Project is but one of the few in the works in Disney. "Tangled" is expected to bring a lot of revenue for Disney, having been a box office hit since 2010, as well as a good performer among the Disney princesses franchise.
