Ted Nugent's Wife Shemane Arrested at TX Airport After Gun is Found in Bag
Ted Nugent's wife has been arrested after a handgun was found in her carry-on luggage at an airport security checkpoint in Texas.
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport spokesman David Magana confirmed to The Dallas Morning News that 51-year-old Shemane Ann Nugent was taken into custody Thursday.
Shemane Nugent's attorney, David Finn, says she made an "honest mistake" and either forgot or never knew the gun was in her bag. Finn says Nugent has a license to carry a concealed weapon.
Nugent has been an outspoken defender of gun owner's rights and the second amendment and has derided those in favor of measures aimed at decreasing gun violence and changing the process for purchasing firearms in the country.
"It's a simple inanimate tool that tens of millions of American families own that have never caused a problem, never had an accident and will never commit a crime," Nugent said during a previous interview with Piers Morgan.
"99.99 percent of the gun owners of America are wonderful people that you are hanging around with here today. Perfectly safe. Perfectly harmless. Wonderful, loving, generous, giving, caring people. Would you leave us the hell alone?" he said.
Morgan was not swayed by his argument and proceeded to point out the U.S. has the highest rate of gun ownership per population followed by Yemen to counter Nugent's claim that more guns create a safer environment.
Still, Nugent suggested that the focus should be taken off guns and placed back on those who commit horrible crimes with them.
"Go after the nut jobs; go after the murderers, because I don't know any. We need to lock up the bad guys and when people show dangerous, murderous intent, which everyone one of these mass-murderers showed," Nugent said.
