Teen Killed Over iPad: Police Urge Apple Users to Relinquish Products

Two young men have been arrested in the death of 15-year-old Marcos Arenas when he refused to give them his iPad and was dragged to his death. Jacob Dismont, 18, and Michael Solid, 21, were charged with murder, robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Arenas was attacked while walking down the street on Thursday; Dismont attempted to steal the iPad, but Arenas refused to let go of the device. The two men struggled, and Dismont dragged Arenas back to the vehicle that Solid was driving. Solid attempted to drive away, dragging Arenas to his death and running over him as he held on to the iPad.

"I think both the public and police department share the same sentiment that this was a senseless act of violence," police spokesman Bill Cassell told the Associated Press. "This is a nationwide phenomenon where thieves are targeting individuals who are carrying [Apple devices]."

"Never in my life would I imagine that buying my kid an iPad for his birthday would end up getting him run over," Arenas' father, Ivan, told Fox News. "He never had a lot. The little bit we could gather around, he appreciated a lot. That's one of the big reasons he fought for that device."

The Arenas family has 10 children, making it hard to pay for funeral expenses. Those in the Las Vegas community held a fundraiser for the Arenas family and spent time talking about the young man who had just lost his life.

"He was a very outgoing young man, and he had dreams that I think he would've fulfilled, but his life was taken too short," family friend CherAnn Escalante told KTNV.

"I'm upset these guys took his life away and didn't care. He didn't have a chance to go home," Orville Fassett, Arenas' best friend, told Fox News.

The family ahs established an account to help with funeral expenses. Anyone wanting to donate can give to the Marcos V. Arenas Memorial Fund, which is located at any Wells Fargo bank. The account number is 1255025601, and any donations are appreciated.

Police urge anyone approached for their Apple, or any other brand-name, products, release them rather than fight.
