'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2' Release Date News: Filming to Start April 2015

After Paramount Pictures announced in December 2014 that they will be developing a sequel for the hit movie "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," not much has been heard about the sequel until now.

According to a report in IGN, the film is set to start filming in New York City and Buffalo in April. The film will be reportedly spending around $63 million in New York and another $7 million in Buffalo.

"New York City knows how to host blockbuster films," New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said. "We welcome Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 to New York City, and look forward to the many jobs and tens of millions of jobs this will bring to our local economy."

Plot details for the sequel have not been revealed yet. Confirmed cast members include Megan Fox as April O'Neil, Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick and Tohoru Masamune as the villain, Shredder. Paramount also announced earlier that villains Bebop and Rocksteady, the mutant pig and rhino who are henchmen of Shredder, will appear in the sequel.

Since the film was announced in 2014, the film's producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller have said that the script for the sequel was already done. Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, who wrote the first movie, returned to write the sequel as well. In a Cinema Blend report, Form and Fuller were contemplating on bringing the Turtles to Dimension X, which is an alternate universe where the mutagen ooze supposedly originated from.

Jonathan Liebesman who directed the first film is out of the picture. It was reported that "Earth to Echo" director David Green was in early negotiations to take over, but no confirmation has been made to date. Michael Bay is one of the producers.

The film is aiming for a June 3, 2016 release. Some reports say this is an ambitious release date, considering that a lot of work needs to be done in terms of motion-capture and post-production, much like the first film.
