'Tekken 7: Fated Retribution:' Akuma from 'Street Fighter' Confirmed to Be a Playable Character

A new "Tekken 7: Fated Retribution" character has been featured in the game's latest trailer. The new fighter is Akuma from "Street Fighter."

The new trailer (below) was released by Bandai Namco at the end of its global Tekken 7 tournament, The King of Iron Fist, according to Shoryuken. The video reveals how Akuma fits into the game's overall story line. He will be paying a debt to someone dear to both Heihachi and Kazuya Mishima.

"My beloved Heihachi will inevitably engulf the world in war and destruction resulting in the loss of many innocent lives," Kazuya's mother, Kazumi Mishima, can be heard saying at the start of the video. "If I die. If I can't stop Heihachi, please promise you'll kill him."

Those who follow "Tekken 7" would know the opening scene from previous trailers, where Kazumi pleads with a mysterious person regarding Heihachi. The new trailer finally sheds light on the identity of this individual.

"As you wish," "Street Fighter's" Akuma replies. "When the time comes, I will repay my debt to you."

Bandai Namco has previously revealed how "Tekken 7's" story line will take players back to the time before "Tekken 1" and will reveal the secrets of the Mishima clan such as why Heihachi threw Kazuya over the cliff and why he wants to kill his grandson Jin.

Akuma is not part of the official launch character roster of "Street Fighter 7," but he will definitely be a playable character in "Tekken 7."

"By the way, Of course 'Akuma' is playable character on TEKKEN7 FR," tweeted game director Katsuhiro Harada.

Akuma joins a growing list of new characters, including Kazumi, Jack-7, Yoshimitsu, Gigas, Claudio, and Katarina.

"Tekken 7: Fated Retribution" is expected to release in Japan, although a specific release date or window has not been announced yet. The arcade update will include graphical improvements and more content.
