Akuma Shines in New 'Tekken 7' Gameplay Trailer; Learn More About His Role in the Upcoming Fighting Game
Akuma thus far the only crossover character included in 'Tekken 7'
"Tekken 7's" roster is full of returning characters who series veterans likely already know, as well as entirely new fighters. And then there's Akuma.
Akuma is different from the game's other characters mainly because the "Tekken" franchise is not where he got his start, with "Street Fighter" fans already knowing his moves by heart even before he stepped in front of Heihachi Mishima.
Despite being a so-called "guest character," Akuma doesn't look like a fish out of water in the upcoming fighting game.
A brief gameplay video shared over on YouTube by "Game Clips and Tips" even shows just how naturally Akuma looks battling against "Tekken" fighters.
It's clear that though Akuma may not be a "Tekken" original, he still fits in quite well within the franchise.
Notably, Akuma is also not treated like many other "guest characters" who have appeared previously in other fighting games.
That's because unlike those other "guest characters," Akuma also plays a role within the main narrative of the game itself.
During an earlier interview with PlayStation Lifestyle, franchise producer Katsuhiro Harada talked about how Akuma figures into "Tekken 7's" main storyline.
According to Harada, Akuma is involved in the Mishima storyline, though exactly how remains unclear. Harada even shared that he is hesitant to put that "guest character" label on Akuma.
That Akuma is being treated that way should come as pleasant news for fans, as he is certainly more than deserving of having a significant role inside any game.
For now, Akuma is the only crossover character featured in the new fighting game, and it's still unclear if he may be joined by luminaries from other franchises as well.
Even if he ends up being the only one included, however, fans can expect that Akuma will be important inside this game.
"Tekken 7" will be officially released for the PC, PS4 and the Xbox One on June 2.
