'Tekken 7' News: Franchise Director Katsuhiro Harada Comments Again on Why New Fighting Game Will Not Support Cross-Platform Play
Home version of 'Tekken 7' currently set to be released for the PC, PS4 and the Xbox One
When the home version of "Tekken 7" is released later this year, it will become playable not just for PlayStation 4 owners but also for PC and Xbox One gamers, which is probably why many fans are wondering about cross-platform play.
At this point though, it looks like fans will be better off not expecting to find this feature in the new game.
Over on Twitter, franchise director Katsuhiro Harada responded to some fans asking about cross-platform play. And this time around, he was clear about why this particular feature may not be provided.
According to Harada, the issue with cross-platform play is not a technical one and is instead one related to first-party policies.
Notably, this is not the first time Harada has commented on the issue of the home version of "Tekken 7" potentially featuring cross-platform play.
Speaking to GameSpot last year, Harada also mentioned that from a technological standpoint, cross-platform play could be done and that they even have an idea of how it could work inside the fighting game. Even back then, however, Harada also pointed to policy as the reason for why this feature may not be offered to players.
Game designer Michael Murray has also been asked about this specific issue previously on Twitter. In response, Murray noted that fans should ask Sony about the matter, citing that the folks over at Microsoft have already expressed interest in cross-platform play.
Currently, it just looks like the new fighting game providing support for cross-platform play is a real longshot, so fans may want to adjust their expectations accordingly.
Long-time fans of this fighting game franchise will finally be able to show off their skills once again in the near future, as the home version of "Tekken 7" is set to be officially released for the aforementioned platforms on June 2.
